Sapper Jones of Maeberry, 10 Nichol Lane, Bromley, was an old boy of the National School, and on the staff of the Bromley post office.

A Reservist of the Royal Engineers, he was called up on August 15, 1939.

He was married on 16th September 1939 by special licence, while on 48 hours leave, to Miss Frances Beryl Exton Hancox, daughter of Mrs Elizabeth Hancox of Nichol Lane, Bromley & of the late Sergeant Charles Exton Hancox of 2nd King’s Shropshire Light Infantry, Trimulgherry, India.   They married at Brook Lane Hall, Bromley.  The Reception was held at bride’s home and bouquet placed on Bromley War Memorial.

He left England on 20th May 1940.

His wife received news on 29th August 1940, stating that he is a prisoner of war in Germany.
